About Sera Jey & Lawa Khangtsen

Lineage, community, and the monastic house behind the World Peace Tour.

Sera Jey & Lawa Khangtsen

Lawa Khangtsen is part of Sera Jey Monastic University, a principal seat of the Gelug tradition. Sera Jey is organised into houses (khangtsen). Reestablished in South India after 1959, Lawa Khangtsen was rebuilt in exile.

What is a khangtsen?

Within a large monastery, monks belong to a khangtsen — a regional house providing lodging, meals, and close study companions.

Current needs

Monks arriving from Tibet need classrooms, an enlarged International Peace Library, and hostel rooms. The World Peace Tour helps fund these projects.

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama encouraged Geshe Tashi Lama and the team of six to reach into the global community.

Founder & lineage

Geshe Yodron is Lharampa Geshe Lobsang Gyatso (1932–1998) — the same person; Lama Yeshe Jinpa's root teacher and co-founder of Lion's Roar Dharma Center in 1992.

Lion's Roar Dharma Center

The tour runs through Lion's Roar Dharma Center, Sacramento, CA — co-founded 1992, incorporated as a nonprofit 1998 — via the Sustainable Service Program.
